Born on May 14 in Birmingham, Alabama, Michael Payne, Jr.—affectionately known as Mr. Buddy and lovingly ​dubbed Dippity Dawg by his father—has always been surrounded by creativity. Growing up in West Palm ​Beach and Jacksonville, Florida, he is the second of five siblings in a family rich with musical and ​theatrical talent.

Mr. Buddy's musical journey began early, as he mastered a variety of instruments including piano, drums, ​and trumpet. Drawing from a diverse background in jazz, his sound is a vibrant fusion of 70s, 80s, and 90s ​influences, blending funk, disco, big band, hip-hop, classic and alternative rock, country, neo-soul, and ​beyond. With a passion for thick chords and phat bass lines, he believes that the funkier, the better! His ​roots in the church and inspiration from icons like Will Smith drive him to create fun, clean music that ​resonates with audiences of all ages.

But Mr. Buddy is not just a musical talent; he is also a professional stand-up comedian and actor, known ​for his impressive repertoire of over 50 voice impressions and physical comedy. A proud graduate of the ​esteemed Bethune-Cookman University, he studied Communication Studies with a focus on Theater Arts. His ​leadership experience includes serving as Vice President of the Thurgood Marshall University Debate ​Society and Public Relations for the Hispanic Organization for Latin Awareness (H.O.L.A). A member of Kappa ​Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., he has shared the stage with comedy legends like Benji Brown, Tyler Chronicles ​of “Bossip,” and Emmanuel Hudson from MTV’s “Wild 'N Out.” Additionally, he was a former kid-caster for ​Radio Disney.
